Elmira Jr Soaring Eagles is Looking for Host Families for the 2019-20 Season

With moving the team from Binghamton, NY to Elmira, NY, many obstacles stand ahead of us, but no subject greater than finding Host Families.  During our time in Binghamton, we thoroughly enjoyed the relationships created between our players and their host families.  It takes a special kind of family to open their home to a young man who is far from his own and in need of a room.   We hope to have the same kind of success in the Elmira, Horseheads and Corning communities.  If this sounds like an exciting opportunity, please reach out!

We are looking for Host Families for the 2019-2020 season.  The Soaring Eagles players, age 16-20, have the same needs as any young man, a room of their own, hearty meals, and a positive family environment.  Our players are recruited from across the country, at times internationally, and need a home away from home while they’re in town playing hockey.

Having quality billets and adding compatible players to their homes can encourage benefits for both parties.  Players are given the opportunity to travel the country trying to maximize their hockey potential without sacrificing the importance of proper nutrition and the stability only a family environment can provide.  Families get to add a helping hand around the house, a big brother for families with younger children, and more then anything, a high character person to positively add to the family dynamic.

We will be heavily engaged with our players and the billet families to find the best matches.  If a family and player don’t seem to mesh, we’ll immediately make a change to find the proper situation for both parties.

The relationships our players have with their host families can last a lifetime.  When players are put with proper families, they help the players to mature socially and academically while improving independence.  Host families are likely involved with players while they’re dealing with real life-changing situations and these obstacles likely create bonds for life.  Families willing to engage in such an adventure are the ones who will get the most out of the billeting experience.
